Tamil Nadu's Information Technology (IT) services export from the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Special Economic Zones (ELCOT SEZs) stood at ₹33,268 crore in FY25, a growth of 21 percent year-on-year.

ELCOT has established eight SEZs in Chennai and across tier-2 cities with a total extent of 1,185 acres, as per the IT and Digital Services Department policy note for 2025-26.

Tamil Nadu, which is the third-largest software exporter in the country, is well-positioned to capitalise on this momentum, according to the policy.

Speaking in the Assembly, State Minister of Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiagarajan said that the government was working on providing e-Sevai and other citizen services over WhatsApp.

E-SEVAI EXPANSION

“Instead of even going through a website, citizens can message on WhatsApp and access the services,” he said.

As per the policy note, as of March 31, 2025, there are 34,843 e-Sevai centres operating across Tamil Nadu.
Over 1.09 crore e-Sevai transactions have been undertaken via the portal in FY25.

POLICY REVAMP

Further, the policy note highlighted that with the objective to make Tamil Nadu an innovation-led knowledge economy, ELCOT is in the process of revamping and upgrading the Tamil Nadu Information and Communication Technology Policy 2018.

ELCOT has already established 266 Permanent Enrolment Centres (PECs) across the State to provide Aadhaar-related services.
Thiagarajan said that the State plans to add 50 more such centres.
