Chief Minister M K Stalin’s outstanding leadership and governance will ensure that DMK sweeps the urban local body elections and this year;s budget would be a further reflection of the CM’s ability, said finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.

He told reporters after casting his vote at Madurai corporation Kakkai Pandiniyar girls higher secondary school that one nation one election proposal was not feasible, and those trying to propagate it had no basic knowledge about it. “They are saying one country, one registration. Take for example, the frauds in the registration department in Madurai, where temple land has been registered fraudulently. If there is lack of information about registration in Madurai, what can be done if a person from Gujarat encroaches temple lands in Madurai,” he asked.

On the impact of his speech at the GST council, the minister said he had made his submission as a report based on facts. “If they say it is problematic, why did they appoint me as a member of the standing committee for GST”, he asked. Rumours can come in the media, but the Union Finance Minister and Finance Secretary, Chief Ministers and deputy Chief Ministers have to work in coordination for the development of the nation, he said.

Citing a TERI summit in which he participated along with Maharashtra and Meghalaya environment ministers Aditya Thakkare and Sangma respectively, he said they had stated that infrastructure development can be achieved only through execution from the state, district and local body level. “

“Achieving development by executing the work from Delhi alone is not possible”, he said.
