Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Friday presented the first supplementary estimates amounting to ₹3,719.65 crore for 2021-22 in the Assembly.

“I am duty-bound to state that these supplemental estimates amount to about 1% of the total expenditure in the Revised Budget Estimates. Such fiscal discipline is the result of the government's daily exercise of prudence and accountability under the government of the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin,” he said.

Pongal Gift

Mr Rajan said that of the ₹1,020.25 crores included in the supplementary estimates, ₹887.66 crore was for the distribution of Pongal gift hampers and sugar cane to all ration cardholders and Sri Lankan Tamil families living in camps. The government has allotted ₹132.59 crores towards the distribution of grocery kits, which were given to ration card-holders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
