Madurai will develop in a big way, if people vote for the DMK and its allies in the ensuing elections to the Madurai Corporation, said minister for finance P T R Palanivel Thiagarajan.
Campaigning for the candidates in Madurai city on Tuesday, the minister said chief minister M K Stalin had decided to hold the urban local body elections in spite of many drawbacks in the delimitation exercise of the wards in Madurai Corporation during the AIADMK rule. He campaigned in Arapalayam for party candidate Indirani Ponvasanth who is contensting from the 57th ward of corporation.
There are sixteen wards in the Madurai Central constituency for which he is the MLA and thirteen of the contestants for these wards were women, he said, adding that any society that gave proper presentation to women would proper representation to women would prosper.
Chief Minister Stalin has allocated Rs.500 crores for the integrated drinking water and UGD project, and Rs.25 crore for the Sri Meenakshi Amman temple, he said. As a person holding an important portfolio, the minister said that he would do his best to bring more developmental schemes to Madurai. He thanked the people of Madurai for voting Su Venkatesan who strongly voiced his opinion against the fascist BJP government.
